PROPOSALS to route massive wind turbines down the A161 from Goole through Swinefleet and Eastoft towards Keadby and Crowle were thrown into doubt this week.

The New Jersey alternative energy firm that had pushed to build three 445-foot wind turbines in the waters off Plum Island has ditched the plan in favor of a more ambitious project off the coast of Block Island.

The proposed wind power project on the top of White Mountain has generated tremendous interest locally in wind energy. Local residents were able to hear a variety of view points on the topic last Wednesday, at a wind forum hosted by the Sweetwater County Commissioners.

The state Public Service Commission has given the go-ahead to a proposed $950 million wind center in Logan County.
A company called Just Wind wants to build a wind farm with 160 turbines, rated at 2.4 megawatts each. The PSC has approved the sites for all but six of the turbines.
Commissioner Tony Clark says that in those six instances, the PSC has normally required the turbines to be at least 1,400 feet away from homes and businesses. He says the agency . . .

ITALY — Town Board members plan to decide next week whether they consider an application from EcoGen LLC to develop 18 wind turbines complete.
At Tuesday night’s board meeting, consulting engineer Frank Sciremammano said he reviewed the application and thinks it is.

Scituate - A study completed by the University of Massachusetts Wind Energy Center shows that the shadow flicker of a potential wind turbine on the Driftway would have a minimal effect on local residents.

Eight parish councils have decided to oppose a scheme for a wind farm between Linton and Great Chesterford.
Linton, Hadstock, Hildersham, Little Chesterford, Great Chesterford, Hinxton, Little Abington and Great Abington parish councils have voted to lodge objections with South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) and Uttlesford District Council regarding the scheme.
MP Jim Paice, who represents South East Cambridgeshire, has also written to SCDC objecting to the scheme.

Plans for a new seven-turbine windfarm at Flixborough Grange have been rejected.
The controversial development was given the thumbs down by North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee at a packed meeting at Pittwood House yesterday.

EASTPORT, Maine — The Eastport Port Authority today hopes to show it can compete with other state ports, as well as Boston and New York, when it welcomes the first shipment of wind energy equipment the port has ever handled, officials said Wednesday.

A fresh battle is set to be waged against plans for a new wind farm on East Lancashire moorland.
Plans for the wind farm between Oswaldtwistle and Haslingden, unveiled in 2007 by Energiekontor, have been revised by the German firm.
Haslingden and Oswaldtwistle moors had been earmarked for 24 turbines with 130-metre blades.
But now only the Oswald-twistle site is included in a 12-turbine application to Hyndburn council, which is being thrown open to public consultation.

The debate over a proposed large-scale windmill farm on East River Mountain is blowing into Bluefield.
City officials are being asked to prepare an ordinance regulating the development of windmills along the West Virginia side of East River Mountain. City Manager Andy Merriman and City Attorney Brian Cochran are now in the beginning stages of drafting such an ordinance.
