Contact Energy is seeking to delay a project the previous Government had agreed to fast-track.
The power company is to ask the Board of Inquiry to postpone the hearing on its planned 180-turbine windfarm near Raglan for one year, so it can carry out more research and site work on Waikato’s west coast.
An opponent of the windfarm, Ross Townshend, says the call-in system is for projects that are to be fast-tracked, and Contact’s request for an adjournment should mean forfeiture . . .

International energy companies are looking at Maine to test new designs for massive wind turbines and support structures that would float in deep water, out of sight of the coast and in line with the strongest breezes.
Two of the businesses have been attending monthly meetings of Maine’s Ocean Energy Task Force, which must identify up to five offshore demonstration sites before year’s end.
The task force is considering a large amount of information, everything from water depths and wind speed to . . .

The state prisons in Cheshire sit atop a small plateau that is largely open to the four winds.
Rep. Mary G. Fritz, D-Wallingford, wonders if the topography might be suitable to harnessing wind power to generate electricity. Her district includes the 25-acre prison complex.
Fritz and Rep. Kathleen M. Tallarita, D-Enfield, introduced legislation to direct the Department of Correction to set up wind turbines on prison property somewhere in Connecticut. Five other House members co-sponsored the bill.
The experimental program could lead to . . .

Florida Power & Light’s sister company is the biggest producer of wind power in the country, but the utility can’t seem to get a wind project off the ground in its home state.
FPL’s proposal to build a wind farm on a barrier island in St. Lucie County has languished in the halls of county government since it was filed in 2007.
Nearby residents have called the 400-foot-tall turbines eyesores and questioned their impact on Hutchinson Island’s shoreline. County commissioners have . . .

The tips of the blades on a wind turbine can move at more than 160 miles per hour, making them a major hazard to aircraft in flight. It’s not the height of the turbines that causes the problem, although they tower 110m above the landscape, but the fact that this movement can interfere with radar from local airports – causing blind spots for air traffic controllers trying to land a plane.
This means that the biggest challenge facing the construction of . . .

The company proposing five to eight offshore wind turbines three miles to the east of Block Island received $295,360 last week to conduct avian and bat monitoring studies on the island.
The U.S. Department of Energy awarded Deepwater Wind the money to conduct high-definition aerial video recording of bird species, establish a bat monitoring program utilizing inland, coastal and offshore digital acoustical bat monitors, and integrate radar and acoustical monitoring to allow radar to better detect bats in future environmental programs.

Seven companies want to help the town study the feasibility of installing an on-island wind turbine. The town just needs to find roughly $50,000 needed to pay for the report.
The town’s Electric Utility Task Group held off Monday recommending which firm the Town Council should hire until it can explore funding avenues, including securing a grant from the state or money from the federal stimulus adopted in February.
The group did narrow the field to five companies after determining that two . . .

West Wind project

Locals accept the turbine project on Terawhiti Station and Makara Farm is up and running but that does not mean to say they are happy.
Vicky Wutzler of Makara Beach feels there is little point in moaning about the West Wind project now that it is up and running but said she feels cheated by Meridian Energy.
She said the company “told lies” and were “antagonistic” throughout the consultation process and she felt they really steam rolled the local community. . . .

My opposition to the proposed eastern corridor of the Gateway West transmission line proposed by Rocky Mountain Power and the wholesale industrialization of the northern Laramie Ranch by wind developers has nothing to do with my support of the oil and gas industry. I believe the policies being put into place by the Obama administration are setting the stage for the United States’ next energy crisis and we will need all the energy we can get whether it is renewable . . .

The EPA just composed a little list of which corporations are buying the most Green Power in America and tech companies had a pretty strong showing. Intel topped out the list with 1,301,200,000 kW/h of wind power purchased. Though, that’s only 46 % of their total energy use.

Second on the list was PepsiCo, which offset 100% of it’s 1,144,773,154 kW/h of electricity.

Also making the list was Dell (the only company to buy more green power than the used (158%)), Cisco (40%), Motorola (20%) and Sony (44%.) To see the full list, head to the EPA website.

We live in an exciting time and a technologically advanced society. Alternative power / energy options for homeowners are on the up-and-up, similar to the price of traditional energy. Did you know that you can easily build your own home-made windmill? These are sometimes referred to as a wind generators and they enable you to create your own energy absolutely free.

Solar panel has numerous advantages. It’s powered by natural light. It minimizes your gas and oil costs by reducing the consumption of gas and oil. Solar panel uses renewable energy from sun. Solar panel converts both direct and indirect sunlight. Even if the panel doesn’t get direct sunlight it can function as there’s adequate solar [...] Related posts:
