A hot-water heater is operated by solar power. If the solar collector has an area of 6.5 m2 and the power delivered by sunlight is 550 W/m2, how long will it take to increase the temperature of 1.0 m3 of water from 23°C to 58°C?

My friend has a very uncommon name. Every-time I see one of those key-chain things with names on it at stores, I always wish I could buy her one. I have one that has my name on it that is solar powered and blinks my name.
Anyone know where i could customize one for a Christmas present?
Thanks!!

hello,
i am bulding a solar powered boat for a school competition. we are only allowed to have 2 batteries that, combined, weigh less than 55lbs. right now we have 2 12v batteries that gives 24v. we have a motor that runs on 24-48v. from experimentation i have found that there is a significant increase in power when running the motor on 36v. i am looking for somthing that will allow me to boost the voltage from 24v to 36 or even 48v and i can still draw enough current for an 8hp electric motor (100-200amps maybe?). also, the boat only needs to run for about a minute so our goal is to drain the batteries as fast as possible. i have looked into dc/dc converters but i cant find any for the job. does any one know of what i might be looking for. also, we have a budget of about $2000, so dont worry if this is expensive. thanks alot in advanced.

In view of the oceans getting saltier with time and your need for water, could you build a canal or conduit from the sea into your central dry area? You would be taking salt out of the oceans and at the same time, perhaps, benefit from the evaporation and rains from this sea water.
China is building a huge pipeline from SE Asia to Beijing for water. Why not similar for Australia? Use solar power or wave action to power the water flow into some low lying central area.
Eventually, mine the salt.
A dream I just had.

or do they just sell to commercial/industrial businesses?
also…what’s the difference between commercial and household solar power?

I need some help here. I’m taking an astromony class and I can’t figure out which one of these is important. I’m stranded on the moon for 7 days and I need to survive. I have to list from 1-15 of things that are the most important. 1 being the most and 15 being the least. Also I need an explanation to each one as to why it should be this ranking.
Here are the items:
50 ft of nylon rope
Two 110 pound tanks of oxygen, enough of a supply to last for 5 days
One box of wooden matches
Food concentrate
Parachute silk
Portable heating unit
Two .45 caliber pistols
One case of dehydrated Pet brand milk
Stellar map (of the constellations as they appear on the Moon)
Life raft
Magnetic compass
5 gallons of water
Signal flares
First aid kit containing injection needles
Solar-powered FM receiver-transmitter
Remember rank them from 1-15 and I need an explanation for each.
Anyones help would be appreciated

I have plans of setting up a solar power plant with capacity of around 5 mega watts preferably photo voltaic one not thermal. So can anybody give me rough figure about how much money i need inorder to set up one? excluding the land cost
its a specification of a power plant, like for a hydro electric they say 5mw hydro electric power plant. idea is simple gov is giving around 80% funding I have best suited location which has serious electricity woes. For preparing proposal for the project i need an approximate cost of it.

I enjoy the safety from people outside and the quality of people inside.
But do these people get kick-backs from the state?
Do you know I can’t have a solar powered water heater installed cause it might look ugly.
…FROM SPACE MAYBE! Because the panel goes on the roof and this is a TWO story house and it would go on the back side.
The A/C at the gym doesn’t work. It’s either off or freezing. It comes on whenever it wants, and doesn’t shut off when you turn it off. Pneumonia anyone?
The alarm speaker at the pool makes annoying, crackling noises at random times. Why is there an alarm speaker there? I dunno. I’ve never heard it go off.
They placed speed bumps 12 feet before the Stop signs to waste my breaks, having to break twice every time.
Makes me wonder where the money is going.

From the article:
Carter faced a crisis from a combination of economic problems, failed policies of his predecessors and, finally, an Iranian revolution that cut access to some Middle Eastern oil.
Carter met the problems by starting sweeping oil-reduction reforms, including creation of the Cabinet-level Department of Energy.
He began spending millions of dollars researching alternative sources for electrical power, including solar power. He got utilities to cut their use of oil for electricity and ramp up their use of natural gas or coal.
Up until Carter, we were getting about 20 percent of our electricity from oil generation, said Jay Hakes, director of the Energy Information Administration under Carter and an authority on modern presidents and oil. And post-Carter, it went down to about 3 percent.
Carter insisted that U.S. automakers build more fuel-efficient cars, with a goal of 27.5 miles per gallon over the following decade - a requirement passed under Gerald Ford but put into force by Carter.
He offered incentives for getting oil from shale, creating a boom initially in the Rockies - and a bust when it failed to be cost-effective. He offered deductions for using solar water heaters in homes and commercial buildings.
People in the upper-income bracket were always looking for tax cuts. They were going to build a house anyhow, so they were saying, ‘Well let’s look at this solar stuff and see what we can do,’ said Marc Giaccardo, a professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio who at the time was an Albuquerque architect.
Carter even had solar collectors installed on the White House grounds to heat the executive residence’s water.
Then Carter lost re-election to Ronald Reagan in 1980. The so lar panels at the White House eventually came down - and Reagan and his aides gutted the solar research program.
In June or July of 1981, on the bleakest day of my professional life, they descended on the Solar Energy Research Institute, fired about half of our staff and all of our contractors, including two people who went on to win Nobel prizes in other fields, and reduced our $130 million budget by $100 million, recalls Denis Hayes, the founder of Earth Day, who had been hired by Carter to spearhead the solar initiative.
Reagan and Congress stopped aggressively pushing new auto efficiency standards, acceding to Detroit’s desire to leave them at Carter-era levels. They let the solar tax benefit expire, and the nascent solar industry went belly- up.
It was time to let the markets work their magic and stop all this government tinkering, Reagan and conservatives said.
AND LOOK WHERE WE ARE NOW WITH ALL THIS ‘WORKING IT’S MAGIC’ BS?’

Solar power? With all the solar powered lights available and with Christmas lights that use less energy than it took to run one old Christmas bulb I thought maybe there would be something like that on the market somewhere to save on electricity. thanks for your answers. Makwa/Jo:)

We have started to offer solar power about 3 months ago. At first only on the Sunshine Coast, recently in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Environment Council, a not for profit organisation that is dedicated to sustainability.
With the first systems installed last weekand another 150 people signed up, we are now in a position to [...]
