I did a test on everything I use on average with a Wattmeter. It came out to about 1500 - 2000 Watts and thats all running 24/7. How can I calculate how many Watts of Solar Panels I need to keep up with that durning the day aswell as charging a battery bank for night? Also what size battery bank? I live in St Paul Minnesota as for sunlight etc.

While Stargate Universe keeps gaining momentum, this week’s episode, “Light,” ended up being just a touch predictable. That’s not to say the episode wasn’t good — but with such a young show, it was quite obvious that the main …

Hi, This is the firs time I’ve used Yahoo answers and really didn’t know how to go about asking…
So, erm… I wonder if anyone could help? A friend of mine was asking if he should upgrade his current battery a 3 year old 50amp hour car battery to a more suitable leisure battery or deep cycle, maybe 100amp hour or 150ah.
He has a 60watt 12v solar panel and draws a constant .4ah powering a fence energiser keeping in sheep.
The end of July he checked the input from the panels as nice 2 - 2.5amps with the sun shining, come winter he’s now only seeing a .5 to a 1a for a maximum of 3-4 hours a day.
So if the energiser is pulling a constant .4ah * 24 hours = 9.6ah a day
If we estimate the Solar Panels are providing .8ah * 4 hours = 3.2ah a day
Does this prove a loss of 6.4ah in a 24day.
be interesting to hear if anyone else would agree or disagree ?
So the answer would be no, you need more charge for the battery, such as larger Solar Panels or wind turbine to at least equal or provide more than what is being used.
But! given the above calculations (if they’re correct) the only benefit to a larger deep cycle battery would be the fact it would handle the charge and discharge cycle better and potentially last longer maybe 5-6 years.
Or is the old battery not storing the charge as well and the above calculations are incorrect?

I have a sun jar, it’s solar powered, and it doesn’t light up anymore even though it’s getting enough light to power it. The lid may have been opened at some point which might be why it’s not working. Can any give me some sort of instructions on how to fix it? or what is wrong with it? Thank you
