Resolved Question: How fast is an average alternator speed?
Posted by adminFeb 19
I have a solar power system I built and due to the inefficiency of the photovoltaic process I don’t get much current out of it. Now today I had the light bulb above the head glow. I have an old bicycle which some sneaky buggers stole my breaks off of. If I could prop up the rear wheel and attach an alternator to it I can make up to 100A whilst exercising. Only thing is I’ve found how much current an alternator can put out but left in the dark about the required input RPM to get that amount out. Now using the bicycles gearing I’m confident I can match the required ratio to achieve the alternators required RPM.
So summed up, what speed (RPM) is an average alternators requirement?
A cars RPM output is typically 2000-3000RPM right? I’m just guessing but i’m sure belts and gears will change what the alternator receives.
Thanks
